Welcome to the Neighborhood

Our flat is located at 1 Hintere Gerbergasse #31, 87700 Memmingen, Germany... for anyone wishing to send mail "oder" come visit us. It was built post-war, in 1947, and is located in the heart of downtown Memmingen, a typical Bavarian town. Here's a few pics to show you around. This first one is our apartment house. Ours is the window at the very top, on what we would call the 4th floor, but here in Europe, the ground floor is not called the first floor. What we call the 2nd floor is what they call the first floor. So we have to climb 3 flights to get to our apt, which takes up the whole top floor. And no lift (elevator), so we had to wrestle our five 50-to-70 pound suitcases up those narrow stairways!

The view from our street is of the Gerber platz (place), a little park with an interesting building covered in vines.

Here's a cool building across the platz from us...

More interesting Bavarian architecture...

I like the artwork of the signs hanging in front of all the little shops.

I think this church, Evangelisch-Lutherische St. Martinskirche, must be one of the oldest buildings in Memmingen. It always amazes me to consider how these buildings were made of these huge heavy stones.

Next we come to "der Marktplatz", like the city center. It's pretty cool to just look around at all the old buildings and the fall colors of the leaves growing over some of them...

And then just to mix it up a bit... some new mixed in with the old.

And speaking of pictures, I just need to note that I love Sharayah's current blogspot pic... wanted to say it somewhere more than just a comment... /wink

Oh, and one last picture... my favorite one of the Alps as I was flying over them from Milan Italy to London England at the beginning of October. I hope to get to enjoy them on a snowboard in a month or so...

Auf Wiedersehen!
