Roman Holiday

We had a hard time catching a bus to the downtown area, because the Tabacchi shops that sell the tickets are closed, but this nice lady at the bus stop just gave us two tickets. It was a pleasant surprise. As we chatted with her, we discovered she'd spent time in the U.S. in Washington DC and San Antonio.

When we stepped off at the end of our public transportation adventure, the streets of Roma where filled with people celebrating the holidays.

I loved this statue on the top of the National Museum.

It's so amazing to be in Rome among all the statues and ruins...

Just check out this shot of the Colliseum from a distance. It's amazing!

We caught sight of some Roman soldiers at Circus Maximus. Somehow I think the real ones back in the day were much tougher than this... but it was fun to watch them.

Finaly, we arrived. The Colliseum. Il Colosseo.

Once inside, we had this spectacular view of the walls and the rooms underneath the floor... where gladiators awaited their turn to do battle... where animals were caged... where those destined to die spent their last moments of life. I expected it to speak to me... to hear the voices of those Christian sacrificed long ago. But I didn't hear anything. I didn't feel anything. Then God gently reminded me, that their voices were not silenced, but that they no longer needed to speak or remember those fatal moments... because they are safely at home with Him in the heavenly places.

Awesome!

We wrapped up the adventure with a very late lunch at the Caffe Martini just across the street from the Colliseum. Then we tried to catch a bus back, but the streets were closed and filled with people... a sea of people. It was cool!

We walked...
